Their passion for blues is obvious every time they take to the stage, do not tamper with your seatbelts

 

Doctor Brown & The Groovecats, Newcastle, England

Catch these guys if West Coast swing blues lights your candle. These guys are slick, look great, and as tight as a nut.

With an average age of just 20 it’s hard to believe they play with an energy and ability that creates an excitement and maturity that sets them apart from their contemporaries.

Breath-taking West Coast swing, they play music inspired by the sounds & styles of the ‘40s & ‘50s. A mix of mostly original songs with a few well-chosen covers from the likes of T-Bone Walker, Roy Brown & Champion Jack Dupree.

Blues, funk, soul, rock, reggae and jazz are all rolled together in this Band’s own feel-good concoction. Above all, the Band’s aim is to give their audience a night to remember.

Grainne plays the blues like a seasoned relative of BB King or Bonnie Raitt. “Bluesy Americana from Ireland with genuine worldwide potential. She has a husky voice and plays a mean blues guitar.” She is not long back from performing in Glastonbury

 

Rab “Coolhand” McCullough Band, Belfast

Master blues guitarist, who has been one of the central figures of the Belfast blues scene since the mid-sixties. His irresistible combination of Irish and American blues is helping to redefine contemporary blues music

 

Hollywood Slim & the Fat Cats, Dublin hollywoodslimandthefatcats.com

Drawing mainly from the West Coast blues style, Slim takes his Little Walter-inspired Mississippi saxophone right over to Chicago, then west to California, wailing up an unholy storm along the way. They swing resolutely throughout while their ace guitarist sets pulses racing with fiery T-Bone Walker/B.B. King-inspired licks.

They run the Blues Jam in Mc Kenna’s Bar on the last Thursday of every month. It’s been running now since 2003. There will be a “House Band” to start things off; you never know who is going to be there. It could be you!! Des will be your host and MC.

They play a crossover of country rock and blues and have played in lots of Irish pub venues in London including a support slot for Alabama 3 and Eric Bell.

A mix of everything that is great in music, a unique soulful, spiritual, groovy sound, described as the middle ground between Rock&Jazz. The have developed a kinda chilled out rootsie Americana westcoast feel.

No festival can be complete without the support from the publican’s venues in town who are the partners in bringing this festival together. Access to any of these venues is free of charge and performance times may vary from venue to venue. Nearly 40 gigs will be played at these venues by the time we head to work on Monday 8th
